Bach Dang Giang Relics
Introduction
Through many historical ups and downs, Bach Dang Giang Relic Area in Minh Duc town, Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city has long become an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. This place is the memory of the heroic victories in the war against foreign invaders of our ancestors’ generations.
The relic site is located about 20km from Hai Phong city center, in Minh Duc town. Stepping into this area, visitors will witness an imposant stone pillar about 5m high with 7 words “Giang San Prosperous Qi Bach Dang Thau” (roughly translated: Qi from the upper rivers and mountains is concentrated in Bach Dang). The other sides of the stone pillar are engraved with images of the merits and miracles of King Ngo Quyen, King Le Dai Hanh and Great King Tran Hung Dao. Next, through rows of bonsai and ancient trees, visitors come to the first temple in the relic – Trang Kenh Vong De, worshiping King Le Dai Hanh, followed by Linh Tu Trang Kenh worshiping Hung Dao king Tran Quoc Tuan. , the person behind the Bach Dang victory in 1288, and finally Bach Dang Giang Temple worships Ngo Quyen, the winner of the Southern Han army in 938. The Temple of President Ho Chi Minh is the last temple in the four sacred words of the monument. accumulation.
A unique feature that attracts tourists are 3 bronze statues with the images of King Ngo Quyen, King Le Dai Hanh and King Tran Hung Dao, placed in the floating square, facing the Bach Dang River. All three heroes are vividly shaped, each with their own nuance. The statue of King Ngo Quyen keeps his feet on the waves, his hands pointing straight down to the Bach Dang river, where the enemy was defeated. Statue of King Le Dai Hanh with his robe fluttering in the wind, his hand holding the hilt of his sword, his eyes shining with fierce fighting spirit. The great king Tran Hung Dao calmly held the Binh Nguyen “War Book” in one hand, and in the other hand tightly grasped the hilt of the sword, posing heroically and proudly. The three heroes stood on the stone pedestal, looking into the distance, looking towards the stakes simulating the victory on the Bach Dang River in the past.
Bach Dang Giang relic area began as an ancient temple to worship heroes who sacrificed on the Bach Dang River. Thanks to the cooperation of the community and benefactors, this place has become the large-scale, spacious architectural complex it is today.
In addition to the historical values, visitors are also impressed with the excellent management of the relic site’s Management Board. Unlike other tourist destinations that often encounter street vendors and meat traders, Bach Dang Giang excels with the “3 No’s” criteria: No service fees, no shops, and no waste. . This creates a peaceful, solemn atmosphere, which visitors often feel when coming here.
According to the Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee, the Bach Dang Giang relic site holds great values and is a symbol of the historical resistance wars of the Vietnamese people. Being ranked as a National Historical Site in early 2021 is a testament to Hai Phong city’s continuous efforts in preserving and promoting the value of historical and cultural relics of this area. The next plan is to research with experts and specialized agencies to add value, aiming to request UNESCO to recognize the victory relic complex on the Bach Dang River as a World Cultural Heritage.
