Food Tour Hai Phong

Anyone who has the opportunity to come to Hai Phong and not eat this place is truly a big mistake, so on the occasion of the cool autumn weather, in just a few minutes we decided to go to Hai Phong for a food tour to explore the cuisine. Real Port land!

Move to Hai Phong

If you depart from Hanoi, you can use popular means of transportation such as train, bus, car, or motorbike. For trains, the ticket price when purchased at the station is 85,000 VND/seat. If you have a student card, the price will be reduced to 69,000 VND/seat. If you travel by bus, you can catch it at Gia Lam, Giap Bat, Yen Nghia, Nuoc Ngam bus stations (usually trips are about 20 minutes apart). Private cars and motorbikes are considered the most convenient means of transport for your trip from Hanoi to Hai Phong, taking about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Just follow National Highway 5A or Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway, you can easily reach Hai Phong!

Coming to the city, you can rent a motorbike for 80,000 – 100,000 VND to move around the locations. If you go by train, rent a car right at the station for convenience!

Eat “down” in Hai Phong

Surely this is the part you are most looking forward to, right? Following in the footsteps of our Hai Phong friend, on this one-day Food Tour, we enjoyed most of the delicious restaurants in the port. Below are a few “light” reviews of the dishes I enjoyed!

Spicy bread
Address: 37 Dinh Tien Hoang
Reference price: 25,000 VND/10 cakes

After getting off the train and renting a car, the first thing I did was go eat spicy bread and Thai sweet soup at 37 Dinh Tien Hoang. Here, the bread has a crispy crust, fragrant pate inside, just right, eaten with sweet and spicy chili. Thai sweet soup served with sweet soup. However, when I returned home, I bought it at Ong Cuong (184 Hang Kenh) and found that the pate at Ong Cuong was much richer and tastier than here, but it was only sold for takeout.

Famous spicy bread shop

The “famous” spicy bread of the port land

Nem chua from Do market
Address: 167 Phan Boi Chau

Reference price: about 20,000 VND/bowl of spring rolls

This place sells sour spring rolls eaten with dipping sauce and raw vegetables. The restaurant is open all day, but if you want to eat at the restaurant, you can only eat in the afternoon and the restaurant is quite small, enough for 5 people to sit. Please note that if you eat, you have to park your car at the school for 10,000 VND/car and 20,000 VND for a bowl of spring rolls.

Mixed crab cakes

Address: 135 Lam Son

A bowl of mixed crab cakes with full toppings, this is probably my favorite dish that I eat every time I come to Hai Phong. The restaurant is quite crowded, especially on weekends, so you should choose a time to not have to wait long.

Spicy fish noodle soup
Address: 66 Le Loi

Reference price: 30,000 VND/bowl

I ordered a mixed bowl to enjoy. I found the toppings to be quite delicious but the broth was nothing special. Note that if you can’t eat spicy food, don’t use chili because the broth is already spicy to begin with!

Miss May’s banh beo
Address: 64 Chu Van An

Reference price: about 20,000 VND/cake

Banh beo is a combination of banh gio and banh te, dipped in dipping sauce, and eaten deliciously.

Hot and steaming banh beo

Cat Dai ship casting wheel

Address: 159, Hai Ba Trung street (Cat Dai intersection)
Reference price: 12,000 VND/bowl

The white cake is smooth, cut into medium pieces, and when enjoying, you eat it with papaya, wood ear mushrooms, pork rinds, shrimp, and add a rich sour and spicy fish sauce. I’m not very used to eating it because it’s both sweet and salty.

Price of stir-fried shrimp from Mrs. Minh
Address: 112 Hang Kenh

This is a type of seafood that I heard about for the first time. I bought 50,000 VND and brought home a full box with herbs. I tried this dish and didn’t feel anything other than long-lasting, hard and cold. It didn’t suit my taste so I tried it to see if I could.

Thuy Oc
Address: 276 Hang Kenh

Coming to Hai Phong and not eating snails is definitely a big mistake, especially Hang Kenh with countless snail restaurants… Coming to Thuy Oc, a snail culinary paradise appears before your eyes, there are snails of all kinds. The most impressive is probably the amazing pot of abalone porridge. Not only does it cook very well, but the porridge is very sweet, giving off the characteristic aroma of abalone.

The sidewalk snail restaurant has many attractive dishes

Ms. Hanh’s coconut coffee

Address: 130 Lam Son (and many other facilities)
Reference price: 20,000 VND – 50,000 VND

Opening hours: 9:00 – 23:00

Hai Phong coconut coffee is so famous! A dish with the rich flavor of coconut milk, the rich, characteristic aroma of coffee, and the addition of sweet and delicious dried coconut.

Rich coconut coffee

Tree House Coffee
Address: 143 street surrounding An Bien lake

Reference price: about 30,000 VND – 60,000 VND

The road is a bit difficult to find, but when you get to Tree house coffee, you will find it worth it and have a bunch of beautiful check-in photos that are no less beautiful than the cafes located in wooden houses in Da Lat. The restaurant has many different sitting spaces, including indoors and outdoors. Diverse drinks, each name has a story.
